How to Maximize Life With a Job

By: Brian Kim - April 7, 2010

If you're a first time visitor, I highly encourage you to click here to learn more about this site in order for you to get the VERY BEST VALUE out of it. Thank you for visiting!

For this article, I’m setting aside all the spiel about money, passion, skills and interests that’s usually written about regarding the topic of jobs.

This article will focus on 2 aspects of maximizing life with a job whether you like your job or hate it.

When it comes to jobs, there are certain intangibles people forget but if they can keep them in mind, will do wonders for in terms of maximizing their lives.

Here’s one of THE VERY BEST things you can do to maximize life with a job:

Have where you work be within walking distance from where you live.

TONS of reasons why this works so well.

TONS.

First off, you’ll never be late. Second, if you can walk to and back from work, you get great exercise. You save on gas. Way less commute time so you have more time at home. You can also come home to cook and eat and do errands while at lunch so you save money on eating out and eat healthier as well.

If that’s not possible, the next best thing is to have employment near public transportation.

Again, you save time, gas and can also be productive on the train/subway/bus while on the way to work.

If that’s not possible, the next best thing is to see if you can find a way to work at least 1 day a week from home.

All of those scenarios are there to save you TIME and on the side, money as well in the form of eating out and gas and help your health too.

If you crunch the numbers, you’ll find that a person with a high paying job but a long commute will come out less ahead financially and time wise than a person who has a lower paying job but a very short commute.

In that sense, the latter person is not only richer financially but time-wise as well, which in the long run, is way more valuable since you can do so much more with it.

Now another factor you can do to maximize life with a job is pick one that requires very little physical activity or see if you can tailor your job to cut out as much physical activity as possible.

The reason is very simple.

If you expend a ton of energy while at work, all you’ll want to do when you come home is relax.

That time at home after work is crucial because it’s there that you can work on things to advance your life.

Without being productive after work, your life will always stay the same. That’s the track the majority of people are on. Go to work, work your butt off, but when you come home, relax because you’re too tired from work. That’s your Monday – Friday. Saturday and Sunday are spent relaxing from work as well, socializing, chores around the house, religious services, etc. Then Monday comes and it starts all over again. Nothing will change because you have no physical energy to do anything with your extra time. You’ll get stuck in the cycle that traps most people in life.

I suspect one of the reasons why those who work in jobs that pay very little can’t advance is precisely because those jobs expend a lot of energy. You have to stay on your feet move around all the time, etc., so when you come home, there’s no energy to do anything to grow. Of course, money’s a factor in inhibiting growth, but energy is often overlooked as well.

The two biggest factors that cut into your life that a job brings is loss of time and energy.

Find a way to conserve as much of those two factors as possible and use those resources to figure out a way to make a living without a job simply for your own security because in this day and age, jobs are not secure.

You should always be on the lookout for a great business idea to start part time on the side and to grow. Time and energy are precious resources that can provide huge leverage but are often overlook simply because they are not tangible.

See how you can preserve as much of it as possible and maximize your life in doing so.
