If you're a first time visitor, I highly encourage you to click here to learn more about this site in order for you to get the VERY BEST VALUE out of it. Thank you for visiting!
This article is a result of a request from one of the Inner Circle members (it’s one of the privileges of becoming a member as you can make specific requests of articles on certain topics).
This article is actually the first one of many that I’ll be writing throughout the coming weeks.
Here’s the actual request:
How can I take out the mental blocks of making more money? I want to make more money but it seems like there’s something in my mind that says it’s bad. How do I get around that or go over that block? It’s like my mind is telling me making money is bad and greedy so I can’t seem to get over that and do it.
The idea of making more money can make people feel a bit queasy. They can’t pinpoint EXACTLY why but there’s something there, something blocking the flow they know if they can just get rid of, will result in more money in their lives.
Religion might play a big part in this. Verses from the Bible such as “the love of money is the root of all evil” or the “it’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter God’s kingdom” tend to really make an impression so it’s understandable to see that this “blockage” might have come from such teachings (while we are on the subject of money and the Bible, note that many of God’s servants were rich through blessings so we know that being rich in it of itself, is not a bad thing).
How can we remove this obstruction and just let it loose, to just let it flow, to turn on the faucet and have the “water” come out?
It’s a bit odd if you think about it because there’s nothing really wrong about making more money as it’s indicative of providing more value in some way shape or form.
Money itself is a very “charged” concept.
And that’s the first issue that I think warrants careful attention – money itself.
Should it be “charged” in the sense that it should have all this heavy emotional energy all around it?
Talk about money with a group of people and I guarantee you’ll get heated responses from all over the spectrum when it comes to it
Everybody has a different take on it.
Some say it’s evil. Some say you should make enough to live on and no more. Some say make all you can. Enjoy life. You only get one shot. Some say you should make enough to live, save, give. Some say trying to be rich is bad. Others say it’s commendable.
It’s all over the place.
It falls into the taboo subjects of politics, sex and religion.
Why give it all that energy?
It’s just money.
Just pieces of paper. Digital bits of information. A medium of exchange.
Money, in it of itself is NEUTRAL.
That’s the first step to take when trying to sort out the guilty emotions of money.
Money, in it of itself is NEUTRAL.
Let go of all that emotional energy around it.
Do you get all hopped up over a white blank sheet of paper?
Then why get all hopped up over a smaller green piece of paper?
Let go of the emotional energy and just realize that money is neutral.
Get back to base.
It’s what people have DONE with money that starts contributing toward all this negative emotional charge which is the essence of this “blockage”.
Imagine if all you’ve heard about with regard to the people who make a ton of money was that they were exploiting the poor, doing drugs, getting into trouble with the law, bribing politicians to make laws so they can make even more money, etc.
Imagine if you got that kind of exposure when it comes to money.
You probably won’t have a very good association with it because through all that exposure, a link is being formed in your mind – make a ton of money like these guys and you’ll turn out just like them.
Now flip the situation. Look at the other side.
Maybe if all you’ve heard about money was all the good it was being used for – buying Thanksgiving dinners for poor families, bringing fresh water to villages in Africa, funding research that leads to treatment to kill cancer, brightening up a child’s face when they get a present, etc.
You’d feel pretty good about making money because you see all the positive effects it can have on others.
It’s this kind of conditioning that helps contribute to how we feel about money.
Now the dark side of human nature involves taking delight in seeing others fail, seeing others being taken down a notch. We like to see the high and mighty fall. I believe the correct term is schadenfreude or something of that nature. Because of that dark desire, it might account for why the media is mostly filled with stories of rich people falling from the top because that’s what people want to see. Sure there are stories of people doing great things with their money too but run the numbers and I’m pretty sure you’ll see a pretty big imbalance between the two in terms of media exposure.
Again, money is neutral and the conditioning you got regarding it while growing up has largely contributed to how you view the aspect of making more money.
So it only logically flows that to take out the “queasiness” of wanting to make more money, it just involves changing how we view it.
I want you to make a list of all the good you’re doing with the money you earn – providing for your family, helping out friends, being able to be your best self so you can in turn help others, giving to charity, supporting an organization you believe in, helping others make a living, etc.
Make a list.
A very detailed one
See all the good you can do.
Now imagine HOW MUCH MORE GOOD you can do if you make more money.
But there’s a catch here.
And the catch is you have to keep in mind CAUSE AND EFFECT when it comes to making more money.
Most people just focus on the EFFECT. How can I get more of the $$$ ONLY. They don’t think about the CAUSE. And when you think about EFFECT only, then it’s really easy to start feeling guilty about wanting to make more money because you’re skipping the natural process. You start thinking about ways to make more money without the proper cause – adding value to people’s lives the best you can.
This is where you can start thinking about doing things like dealing drugs to make a ton of money.
That’s a result on focusing on EFFECT only, not CAUSE.
Focus on CAUSE. Service. How you can create value, add value. THEN it’s REALLY easy NOT to feel guilty about making money because how can you feel guilty when you’re focusing on helping people – which is the CAUSE?
How can you feel guilty about making more money when you know you’re helping people in the process of doing it?
And to take it a step further, how can you possibly feel guilty about knowing that you’re probably adding more value than what you receive in terms of money as compensation?
And once you start receiving proper compensation for your efforts, imagine how much good you can do with that money, starting from you in terms of you being the best you.
Imagine a you – a you not burdened by financial worries and stress.
Imagine a you – a healthy you who has the time and energy to better serve others.
Imagine a you – a you that has time to grow through self improvement and become an even better disciplined version of yourself.
Imagine bringing that NEW YOU to those around you – your wife, husband, children, friends, family, neighbors, relatives, community, etc.
Imagine the kind of impact you can have on their lives being the best you and imagine the kind of good you can do to others all around the world as well.
Now some might say that by doing all this, you’re creating a positive charge around money when I just said it should be neutral.
You’re not creating a positive charge around money.
You’re creating a positive charge on the CAUSE of it – SERVICE.
That’s the buzz that should get you going. The money that comes as a result is just a byproduct, something you can leverage to SERVE OTHERS EVEN MORE.
Now can you get so wrapped up in this pursuit that you neglect your family, friends, relatives, health, etc?
Of course!
It might be another reason why people feel queasy about wanting to make more money because they think other areas of their lives will take a hit.
But if you’re aware of that trap, and make sure not to fall in it through various means whether it means setting limits on your time, studying time management, outsourcing, become disciplined in getting things done, etc., it won’t be that much of an issue.
But I digress.
It’s right here – that CHOICE of what you do with your money, realizing that you have one, that you can use it to enrich your life to bring the best you to those around you and the entire world as well.
How on earth can you feel guilty about wanting to make more money when you see the great positive impact you can make on others with it?
Remember, money in it of itself neutral.
It’s how you view it, make it, and plan to use it that will ultimately determine how you will feel about it.
