The Power of Having a Great Morning Routine

By: Brian Kim - August 20, 2009

If you're a first time visitor, I highly encourage you to click here to learn more about this site in order for you to get the VERY BEST VALUE out of it. Thank you for visiting!

We all have our routines in the morning.

Wake up to the sound of the alarm clock, hit the snooze, go back to sleep, rinse and repeat 13 times before we finally get up, wash our face, brush our teeth, listen to the news, cook breakfast, get dressed, go to work etc.

But that’s not the routine I’m talking about.

I’m talking about the routine before that routine.

The morning is a GOLDEN period of time that cannot be matched at any other time during the day.

It’s quiet. There haven’t been any events yet to influence your thoughts and moods. Your mind is a blank slate. It’s a great opportunity to plant seeds in your mind, exercise it by visualizing, get some work done, etc.

But until you develop a routine, a system, a CONCRETE ONE meaning you do the same things everyday, the power of that routine will be dissipated and your results will not be consistent.

Now it may be difficult for you to come up with a routine from scratch because there’s so much to choose from in terms of what to do.

But don’t dread that process.

Look forward to it.

Look it at as having all this clay and you have total freedom as to how you want to sculpt it to create your morning routine.

Now there isn’t really one right way to do it, but obviously you want to do some things that relate to thinking about your current goal, visualizing it, taking some action on it, as well as feeding your mind with rich mental protein and focusing on the physical in terms of exercise as well to give you energy throughout the day.

And be sure to make it PLEASURABLE for you. This is key. You don’t want to make it a chore. Make it fun.

If part of your routine involves playing your favorite songs and doing a little dance, go for it. If it involves meditating and focusing on your breathing, go for it. If it involves shooting some hoops, go for it. Whatever makes it fun for you - put it in there.

Now the routine obviously can’t take too long. I would recommend that it be an hour long max. And that actually might be too long. 30 minutes would be more realistic but it all depends on what kind of routine you have and how early you wake up.

You want to know the great thing about finally nailing down a routine and sticking to it?

You don’t fight yourself when it comes to waking up in the morning anymore.

You get excited. You WANT to wake up. You WANT to engage in this personal routine you’ve created.

And it’s such a great feeling that I can’t really describe in words, the feeling of waking up eager to do your routine. It’s like having your own sanctuary or monastery for just 15-30 minutes. And then you can open up that bubble and go on with the rest of your day.

I won’t go into details on my routine as it’s a bit personal but to give you some idea, it goes a little something like this.

I read an article, then read a couple pages from the current book I’m reading to feed my mind with rich mental protein, go over my goals, write them down, visualize them, think of what I’m grateful for, do one thing that will move me toward my current goal, then do some exercise (jogging, pull ups, and some basketball) and then get on with the rest of my day.

If you’re having trouble coming up with your morning routine, let me suggest one simple thing. Sign up for the VIP newsletter if you haven’t done so. It’s free and the best part about it among many other things is that you get a M.I.T. (motivational and inspirational thought) of the day Monday through Friday and a link to the article of the day in one email.

That way when you wake up and check your email, it’s right there waiting for you. It’s a great way to feed your mind with rich mental protein and start your day off right.

The results of JUST doing those two things alone have been phenomenal (read the success stories and the testimonials in the rotating box below after you scroll down a bit).

They have been so effective because it’s EASY to apply consistently for readers.

It’s just waiting in their inbox every morning. And all they have to do is click, read, and think about it, plant that seed for the rest of the day and it’s amazing to this very day how many emails I get from people saying that the M.I.T’s have an UNCANNY ability to deal with whatever issues they are personally going through that day.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY.

You have to make sure you create a morning routine that you’ll ENJOY and look forward to doing consistently and the success stories that came from the M.I.T’s are just one example of what can happen when you do something as simple as reading an M.I.T. and an article everyday consistently.

And when you start doing this long enough, the results can be seen because everything starts to compound on one other. You program your goals into your mind, let it sink in your subconscious, which throughout the day makes you aware of opportunities to achieve your goal which you then pounce on which just gives you more ideas after the results you see, etc.

And that’s just a small portion. There are SO many things that happen when you first set the course right from the very start each day. The ways in which everything else that happens the rest of the day as a result of your routine is too complex to process, but in the end you realize it’s all for your benefit and it’s all because of your great morning routine.

It’s such a great thing to do and it doesn’t take very long to see the powerful results when you do it consistently.
