If you're a first time visitor, I highly encourage you to click here to learn more about this site in order for you to get the VERY BEST VALUE out of it. Thank you for visiting!
W. Mitchell, survivor of a fiery plane crash and motorcycle accident, which left him paralyzed, facially disfigured, and fingerless. He is now one of the most sought out motivational speakers in the world today.
Lance Armstrong, survivor of testicular cancer. 7 time winner in a row of the Tour de France and now currently training for the New York marathon.
Dick Hoyt, 65 year old father of a spastic quadriplegic, cerebral palsy, non-speaking son. He has competed in 212 triathlons, carrying his son in each and every one.
(for videos of W. Mitchell and Dick Hoyt, please visit the Inspirational Clips thread in the motivational and inspiration forum)
We see the videos, we hear their speeches, and as tears well in our eyes, we thank them for the messages they impart to us.
Inspirational people have the distinct privilege of making us aware that there is a never ending reservoir of strength and courage inside each and every one of us that we can draw upon to overcome any obstacle and achieve any dream.
Of the many lessons they impart to us, 5 main lessons come to mind.
Make the decision
“Before I was paralyzed there were 10,000 things I could do. Now there are 9,000. I can either dwell on the 1,000 I’ve lost or focus on the 9,000 I have left.” – W.Mitchell
When hearing his diagnosis: “What do I have to do? Let’s get on with it. Let’s kill this stuff. Whatever it takes, let’s do it.” – Lance Armstrong
Dick was told by doctors that his son would be a vegetable with little or no comprehension of the world around him and that he should be institutionalized.
“No, we’re not going to do that. We’re going to bring Rick home and bring him up like any other child.” - Dick Hoyt
Own the frame.
“It’s not what happens to you…it’s what you do about it” – W. Mitchell
“Cancer taught me a plan for more purposeful living, and that in turn taught me how to train and to win more purposefully. It taught me that pain has a reason, and that sometimes the experience of losing things–whether health or a car or an old sense of self–has its own value in the scheme of life. Pain and loss are great enhancers.” – Lance Armstrong
“He’s the one who has motivated me,” said Dick about his son, “because if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be out there competing. What I’m doing is loaning Rick my arms and legs so he can be out there competing like everybody else.” – Dick Hoyt

“Eighty-five times he’s pushed his disabled son, Rick, 26.2 miles in marathons. Eight times he’s not only pushed him 26.2 miles in a wheelchair but also towed him 2.4 miles in a dinghy while swimming and pedaled him 112 miles in a seat on the handlebars — all in the same day” – source unknown

Owww, great… The only thing I can say is this famous quote from Ghandi :
“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
(Ok I admit, actually I learned this while watching Prison Break :p)
